Besuch in Glossop

13. 07. 2023

Reisdokumente: Seit 01. Oktober 2021ist ein gültiger Reisepass notwendig!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Der Vorstand

Twinning Weekend 2023  -  Twinning Trip, Fri 14 July ’23

Port Sunlight, south of the river Mersey, then take the ferry to admire the Liverpool Waterfront.  Sample the Museum of Liverpool at the Pierhead.

Port Sunlight.  Nearer than York, Port Sunlight is a model village/town built by the Victorian soap manufacturer Lord Lever.  His aim was to build good housing and to provide better living conditions for his factory workers.  We could have either a walking tour or a coach tour of the village.  At the Lady Lever Art Gallery, in the same village, there is a fine collection of British 19th century paintings, many pre-Raphaelites, and sculpture.  There are sometimes temporary exhibitions of modern artwork.  Admission is free.  The Museum has a good café, where we could have lunch.

We could then take the coach to pick up the Mersey Ferry, where we would cross as pedestrians to admire the view of the ex-world heritage site that is Liverpool Waterfront.  The coach would go through the tunnel and park up.  At the Pier Head we could walk into the modernistic Museum of Liverpool, which was built in 2011.  Admission is free/donation.  This has lively and fascinating displays of land transport; social and community history especially popular culture and entertainment; and a section on the Beatles – from their early days to their solo careers after the group broke up.  There is a café on the ground floor.

Our coach could collect us from near the Museum.  We could then proceed back to Glossop.  We need to find a suitable venue for an evening meal on the way.

This day out could be reversed: calling at Liverpool first, then Port Sunlight in the afternoon.  This would affect the evening meal venue, and traffic conditions might be better this way round.
